In the meat section of a supermarket, I found a "steak" with the seal of the two birds, which reflects "Product of the Canary" and traceability:
Born in Holland, raised in Holland , Sacrificed in Holland, Cutting in Holland ... but ... then why has the "Product of the Canary Islands? To attract bears as inept as me!
Outraged, I wrote the Canary Islands Government, who replied rápidamentecon the answer to my question:
"Please note that the logo of the two blue and yellow birds is private, owned by ASINCA, Canary Industry Association."
So ASINCA seal leads to confusion, and does not serve to ensure that the raw material is the Canary Islands, but the company is affiliated to the association, which is very different from what we seek in this house.
regulated seal (as this link to the Official Journal of the European Communities 1999/165/EC OJ) is the other, on the left, which assures us (and reproduce literally):
1. The symbol will be applied to natural products agricultural and fishery obtained in the Canary Islands.
2. For processed products specific to the Canary Islands, whose main feature comes from the raw material used, it must be originating in the Canary Islands in at least 90% by volume. For processed products in which the main feature is the process, shall address the specificity of this process.
3. All these products must be characteristic of the products of the Canaries, understood as those that affect the conditions, methods and techniques of cultivation, production or manufacture, and as regards standards of presentation and packaging.
4. The graphic symbol is reserved for top quality products. The quality will be defined according to the provisions of Community rules or, failing that, by international standards.
I said, that each buy what you want, but nobody should confuse believing buy what you do not buy. The symbol on the left says we support local businesses, on the right (the ASINCA) no. "
